An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)
Hold Back the Dawn, the 1941 Mitchell Leisen romantic love triangle sham marriage melodrama ("Written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder from a story by Ketti Frings"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a Romanian gigolo who marries a naive American woman, to get his citizenship, planning on dumping her and re-joining his girlfriend, but then he falls in love with her!) starring Charles Boyer, Olivia de Havilland (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Paulette Goddard, Victor Francen, and Walter Abel. Note that both Olivia De Havilland and her sister, Joan Fontaine, were nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award in 1942, and Fontaine won for her performance in Suspicion. This further strained an already tenuous relationship between the sisters, and they never reconciled before Fontaine's death in 2013!

Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was in 13 years ago!
Condition: good to very good. The poster has some tiny creases, tears, bits of paper loss and separation along portions of the vertical foldline and in the right half of he center horizontal fold (to a lesser extent). It has some separation and paper loss at the bottom crossfold and there are some diagonal creases scattered through center (some slightly cut through the paper at upper left in de Havilland's credit and that is repaired with tape from the back and there is a large piece of tape on back at upper right). There are tiny blank border defects. The ultra rare poster could be displayed as is, but after linenbacking it would display well.
