Hi everyone,Last week, we got to enjoy the 2024 edition of the Full Stack Conference. A fantastic experience centered around our core value: sharing knowledge.A big thank you to everyone who attended! 🎉Hosting this event gave us the chance to delve into crucial topics and connect with passionate people in the tech community. The sessions were packed with invaluable insights such as:🔍 An introduction to vector databases (Backend/Data).🔍 Simplifying microservices: Streamlining complex software processes.🔍 Hennie de Harder from our team showed us the everyday value of algorithms, explaining how they improve the order-picking process at IKEA. It was inspiring to see how machine learning boosts efficiency, working conditions, time management, and customer satisfaction. The sessions were insightful, and the connections we made were inspiring — almost as inspiring as the free buffet! We’re grateful for your participation and look forward to keeping this momentum going. Here’s to many more events where we come together, share knowledge, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.#fullstackconference Cohesion, Divotion, Enqore - Test Automation Specialist, Infuze Consulting, JCore, JDriven en Scyon.ps: see you at the next event!

You know what's really nice? Catching up with old friends! Recently our former colleague Sven Stringer, who now works at the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, put together an interesting event and we were invited. Topic of discussion: how operations research projects are being used in companies, especially in production settings. We got to see four different examples from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the NS, and from IKEA. Our own Hennie de Harder kicked things off the by sharing the project she is working on at IKEA, which is all about making the process of picking orders in stores better. Then Joris Bukala, who's also one of our consultants, asked some of his colleagues from the KLM Network Scheduling team to come talk about the difficulties of getting a schedule optimizer accepted within the business. Next, Gabor Maroti discussed approaches for handling intricate and obscure segments of the codebase in NS's production environments. Finally, Ruben Brokkelkamp and Charlotte Savage wrapped up the event by talking about how orders are allocated at IKEA. One key point that came up in (almost) all the presentations was how important it is to keep talking to users and to have regular meetings with them. This is a big factor in making sure projects actually work well when they're put to use.The drinks and chat time afterwards were very enjoyable as well. Looking forward to the next event, thank you for having us Sven!#machinelearning #operationsresearch #production #event

Time to break out the balloons and streamers (read: flowers and hoodie), because we're welcoming a new member to our team: Puck Schelstraete! Puck is going to strengthen the ranks in more ways than the usual, because she's our new corporate recruiter. Here's a little Q&A if you'd like to get to know her.Q: What can we wake you up for at night?A: Please don't. I really love sleeping. But if you do, for whatever purpose, do it with a proper filter coffee in hand and I'll be all yours in no time.Q: What do you like best about your job?A: I love working as a corporate recruiter with a focus on quality rather than quantity. I strongly believe it's people that make up the DNA of a company. Therefore, people are my first concern. Luckily for me, I get to focus on people every part of this process. From finding them, to coaching someone through the interview process and welcoming them into the company.Q: What's Puck's signature? Something typical Puck?A: I love celebrating stuff. Did you buy a new videogame? Gamenight! Did we find a cool new colleague? Flowers! Have we successfully wrapped up a project? Let's celebrate with dinner! People see me as very enthusiastic. I see it as genuinely happy, and I find it important to appreciate everything. Whether small or big, if you don't appreciate it, it will be lost on you. So let’s celebrate!Needless to say, we definitely celebrate your arrival Puck! Best of luck, and we look forward to seeing you do some cool things! 🎉

“Personally, working as a data engineer, gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying data structures of some of the more widely-used storage engines has been very helpful.” One of our data engineers, Sebas Higler, explains popular data structures in his new blog post (link in comments). The storage data structures discussed are log-structured (represented by the LSM-tree) and B-tree based data stores.#data #storageengines #LSMtree #Btree #databases #datastructures
